How to check what AI assistants say about your business

Ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot the questions your customers ask, in a clean session, and write down who they name, what they say about you and which sources they link. About 20 minutes with the method below gives you a baseline; repeating it every month shows whether you are gaining ground.

The check in six steps

  1. Write 10 buyer questions. Five about your category in your area (“Which dental clinic in Al Barsha is good for children?”), three comparisons (“Clinic A or Clinic B for braces?”), and two about you by name (“What do you know about [your business]?”). If your customers use Arabic and English, write both.
  2. Use a clean session. A private browser window, signed out or with memory and personalisation switched off, and web search switched on. Your own history otherwise changes the answer.
  3. Ask each assistant the same words. ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot cover most use. Do not rephrase between assistants.
  4. Ask each question twice. Answers vary from one run to the next; two runs show what is stable.
  5. Record five things per answer: are you named, in which position, are your facts right (address, hours, services, prices), which competitors are named, and which websites are linked as sources.
  6. Calculate your share. Answers that name you divided by all answers. With 10 questions, 4 assistants and 2 runs you have 80 answers; 12 mentions is a 15% share.

A simple sheet to record it

The rows are an example of how to fill the sheet, not real results.

What the sources column tells you

The linked sources are the pages the assistant trusted for this question. If they are directories, review sites or a competitor’s guide, that is where your information has to be correct and present. If your own website never appears, the assistant cannot quote you: the usual causes are pages that do not answer the question directly, pages that are not indexed, or a site that blocks AI search crawlers.

This is also why one question is not enough. Google describes how AI Overviews and AI Mode may answer a single question:

“…issuing multiple related searches across subtopics and data sources…”

So your page has to answer the follow-up questions too, not only the first one.

What should you do when an assistant gets your business wrong?

Corrections appear only after the corrected pages are crawled again, so check again after a few weeks rather than the next day.

How often should you measure AI visibility?

Once a month, with the same questions in the same way, is enough for most businesses. Keep a few control questions that your work does not target: if your share rises on the target questions and stays flat on the controls, the change is yours.
